Job Prospects

The last decade has witnessed the birth of the Indian supermodels. The glitz and glamour of faraway Paris - the global centre of fashion - seems to have caught on in every town and city of India, luring the young people by dozens. With modeling agencies cropping up at the drop of a rat, it is also seen as a stepping stone to a bigger dream - television and film. A glance at what this career has in store for aspiring models.

  • Product Advertising
  • Featuring Music Videos
  • Doing Live Fashion Shows
  • Showroom Displays of Garment Fairs
  • Opening a School for Models
  • Setting up a Model Co-ordinating Agency
  • Acting in Television Programmes or Films
  • Educational Qualification
    • Strictly speaking there is no need of any formal education or training to get into this field. So is age. Depending upon the right opportunity, a career in modeling can take off even at any age.

      Study and Training

There are no set standards of training and models are usually expected to learn on the job. A beginning for training in this field has been made by ex-models but the training centres are mainly in Mumbai and Delhi only.

Training programmes include instructions on beauty care, make-up, hair styling, diet and exercise, how to walk and carry yourself elegantly and so on. These training programmes also include guidelines on how to make a contract and other technical aspects. Guidance on making a portfolio is also another part of the training.

By joining such programmes as aspiring model would learn the finer nuances of the profession and also get exposure that may in the long run provide help in getting assignments.
